In the run-up to his wedding, an Australian couple was given a week to pack their bags before they had to leave Australia, but ended up with a new partner.
The couple’s plans were complicated by a history of domestic violence and their inability to find a long-term marriage partner.
Now, the couple is facing a court battle to have the case thrown out.
The court heard the woman had been in abusive relationships for 20 years and the man had threatened to kill her after she became pregnant.
The man has since been arrested.
What they have done to each other The court was told the woman and man met in 2002 when the woman was 18.
They met again in 2015 and the woman gave birth in March 2016.
The woman went on to have an affair with him for the next five years, while the man kept his distance.
The pair separated and in March 2018, the woman found a husband.
She said the man was violent towards her, verbally abusing her, and had threatened her with a knife.
She sought counselling but no lasting effect was seen on the relationship.
In October 2018, she said the woman’s relationship with her former partner had deteriorated, and she was worried about her safety.
The trial continues at the High Court in Adelaide.
